Pearl Modiadie’s ‘push present’ and Netflix premiere: Get the details here

May 12th 2021 at 10:30

Modiadie is the co-host of the new Netflix extreme sports reality show which was filmed at the Tiffindell Ski Resort in the southern Drakensberg.

The TV presenter, radio DJ, actress and producer best known to TV audiences for presenting the SABC1 music talk show Zaziwa, took to her Instagram account yesterday to announce the 12 May premiere of Slope Slap or, in her own words: “…this high-energy sexy reality competition with contestants from all over the world”.

Pearl Modiadie’s Mother’s Day present

Not only is Modiadie riding the wave of international success, she also gifted herself with a brand new Porsche to celebrate her first Mother’s Day this past Sunday.

Modiadie gave birth to her baby boy, Olivier Lewatle, in September 2020 and the Metro FM presenter has since split from Lewatle’s father, Nathaniel Oppenheimer.

According to sources, Modiadie apparently felt Oppenheimer was not giving her the support she felt she needed as a new mother at the time. No doubt, her pick-me-up Porsche will…

I gifted myself a push present in celebration of my first Mother’s Day 🥰✨ #MommyCar #ForBabyLewatleAndMommy

For the longest time Mother’s Day was a reminder of what I had lost, but now I celebrate what I have been given… the gift of being a mom. #happymothersday2021

Modiadie co-hosts the extreme sports reality show alongside Sarodj Bertin from Haiti and Amanda Landry from the United States (US). Her participation in the series was first announced by Modiadie back in 2018.

The show sees contestants from all over the world meet in South Africa’s highest ski resort as they compete for the chance of winning one of 12 cash prizes of $2 000 which equates to around R279 561 and other prizes from an American production company.

An excited Modiadie took to social media to post two announcement posts for the premiere of the series:

“At zero degree temperatures, South Africa 🇿🇦(Me) Haiti 🇭🇹 ( @sarodjbertin ) and the USA 🇺🇸(@alwaysarenee ) came together to bring you this high-energy sexy reality competition with contestants from all over the world… SLOPE SLAP!! I’m excited that it’s finally premiering on @netflixsa on May 12 2021!”

“Only 1 day until we can all watch Slope Slap on @netflixsa ! ❄ ⛄ 🥶 We brought the heat in the blistering cold mountains at the Tiffindell ski resort here in SA! I’m team 🇿🇦 and now of course 🇫🇷 😉, you?” wrote Modiadie.

The production company AAA Entertainment described the series as follow:

“Hosted by Pearl Modiadie, Slope Slap is a Netflix big event close-ended reality competition series that pits two teams against each other every week in a series of fun, sexy, snowy, sweaty, and outrageous physical competitions at the coolest mountain top party destination in the world!”

“Set in the winter wonderland of the snowcapped mountains of South Africa, our young, diverse and gorgeous teams of international contestants take on challenging obstacles, with unexpected tumbles and tangles as they push to prove their perseverance,” continued AAA Entertainment.

‘Emily in Paris’: Netflix announces start of season two production [watch]

May 5th 2021 at 12:00

Netflix announced that Emily in Paris season two is officially in production via a social media post on Monday 3 May.

The announcement comes after Netflix revealed that Emily in Paris was the streaming platform’s most popular comedy series of 2020. According to Deadline, the series was watched by 58 million households in the first 28 days of its release back in October 2020. In November, the series was renewed for a second season.

The series also received a Golden Globe nomination earlier this year, to the surprise of many.

“If you didn’t hear, the cast of Emily in Paris is back in town! Production of Season 2 has officially kicked off! 🥐,” the post was captioned.

Emily in Paris stars Lily Collins as Emily, a young, ambitious marketing executive from the United States of America (USA) who lands her dream job in Paris. She is in charge of the social media strategy and the series takes viewers on Emily’s adventures of work, romance and travel in Paris.

“We are writing to inform you that Emily Cooper’s new work permit has been approved with a start date of May 3 2021. As per our prior correspondence, she is an asset to SAVOIR and we hope she continues to have impact with our clients who are very particular about the results they expect from our agency,” wrote Emily’s superior, Sylvie Grateau on Emily in Paris social media page.

Emily is set to embrace the French culture more in the upcoming season. The first season showed Emily’s view of Paris through an American lens, now she will be embracing the city more.

“As we often work with very unique brands, we hope that Emily continues to immerse herself culturally here in order to not make any egregious faux pas. We will continue to keep you updated on her progress and accomplishments in the coming months,” continued Grateau.

show creator Darren Star continued on the topic of Emily building on her knowledge of french culture.

“For me, it’s the evolution of the character. I think when someone goes to Paris for the first time, they are overwhelmed by the beauty of the city and that’s what they’re seeing,” said Star to Variety

“I think, perhaps, a lot of viewers who lived in Paris for a long time didn’t quite understand that this was through the lens of a character who was experiencing the city for the first time. That’s how she was perceiving it — she was really struck by the beauty that was all around her,” he continued.

Emily will also be working and struggling with her French this season.

“When she got there, she got a bit of a free pass in the beginning and I don’t think it will be quite as easy for her in second season. I think she will be more assimilated, in terms of living in Paris and stepping up to the challenges of learning the language,” he added.
